Six suspects arrested in major Carletonville robbery and farm attack crackdown
Police recover stolen goods in Khutsong operation as victims are urged to identify unclaimed property at Carletonville Police Station
Carletonville detectives this week had a huge success when they arrested the gang of robbers suspected of being behind most of the recent house robberies and farm attacks in the Carletonville area.
According to a trustworthy source, members of the serious and violent crimes unit and tracing groups managed to arrest one of the group members in Khutsong about two weeks ago.
They continued to follow up on information that led to the arrest of five other suspects in the Chris Hani informal housing area in Khutsong. They also found a large amount of stolen goods, which includes electrical equipment, jewelry, clothing, and various other property. Cameras with family photos and cellphones were also among these goods.
The suspects were positively linked to some of the farm and house robberies in the area after the rightful owners of the goods identified them. One of the suspects was even wearing a jacket stolen during one of the house robberies in Carletonville.
The suspects, a South African and five Mozambicans between the ages of 31 and 44, already appeared in the Carletonville Magistrate’s Court on May 23 and 25. As far as could be determined, only one of the Mozambicans is legally in South Africa.
Their bail application was due to take place during their next appearance on May 27.
As there is still a large amount of property that was found with the robbers but has not yet been identified by the rightful owners, the police ask that residents who were recently robbed or had their houses broken into please visit the SAPS13 store at the Carletonville Police Station to check whether some of the goods might not be theirs.
Except for getting their goods back, such residents can help with the case against the dangerous robbers, who, amongst other things, severely assaulted an 80-year-old pensioner on a farm and tied a seven-year-old child with a wire during their various crimes.
