Spartans Karate Dojo dominates Bloemfontein

Local karateka excel.

Fighters from the Spartans Karate Dojo walked off with various medals at the national championship.

According to the club’s public relations officer, Martin Venter, 11 athletes represented Spartans Karate Dojo at the Karate SA (KSA) championship in Bloemfontein from 15 to 17 September.

Despite fierce competition, the dojo’s karateka displayed exceptional skill, clinching five gold, three silver and six bronze medals.

“Spartans Karate set its sights on this competition as a final stop of the 2023 karate season.

It was tough to achieve a medal at this event, which had the best athletes from seven provinces.

The athletes showed they could stand up and be counted when the pressure was on, and now want to test the international waters,” says Venter.

“Spartans Karate is now setting its sights on its style activities, including its final grading for 2023. We hope to develop our students into well-rounded athletes who can defend themselves out of the ring, too,” he adds.

The dojo, located in the Carletonville Civic Centre, has students from the area and is adamant that karate, and sport in general, is a solution to developing people into upstanding community members and keeping them off the streets.
