Driver and learners hospitalised after bus accident
The cause of the bus accident that occurred on Friday 23 February and left learners of Modderfontein Primary School and the bus driver injured at Forever Resort in Bela-Bela, is yet to be established.
It is alleged that the bus that was transporting the pupils to the township in Bela-Bela experienced brake failure. The driver allegedly lost control, resulting in the bus crashing through the walls of Forever Resort.
Die Pos newspaper has learned from a reliable source that one learner had to undergo emergency surgery for his arm and that the bus driver was seriously injured. The rest of the learners are being treated at Warmbaths Hospital.
Police and emergency services was quickly on the scene to assist the learners and driver.
Die Pos spoke to various role players, including the principal of Modderfontein Primary School. All parties referred Die Pos to the Department of Education. The Department of Education is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
