Burna Boy dropped from Afropunk concert lineup

This comes a few weeks after the artist was dropped from the Africans Unite concert.

Nigerian musician Burna Boy is trending on social media once again after Afropunk announced that he will no longer be performing at the concert’s 2019 edition set to take place at Constitution Hill from December 30 to 31.

The organisers said this was not the “right” time for the artist to perform in South Africa.

“After a joint discussion with Burna Boy’s team, we are announcing that he will no longer be part of Joburg’s 2019 lineup. We’ve agreed that now isn’t the right time for him to come. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to our community.

“We are dedicated to bringing you an unforgettable #AFROPUNKJoburg 2019 and we’re so excited to see amazing performances from artists like Solange, Miguel, NAO, Busiswa, Sho Madjozi, Kwani Experience and more,” said Afropunk in a statement.

This comes a few weeks after Burna Boy was dropped from the Africans Unite concert following an uproar over his tweets on xenophobic violence back in September.

At the time, South Africans were calling for the musician to apologise to the country and rapper AKA for threatening him.
