Massive Mzansi music icon Raymond “Chikapa” Enock Phiri passed away on Wednesday July 12, 2017 after admission at Nelspruit MediClinic in Mbombela.

He died at the age of 70, having lost the battle to lung cancer. His memorial commenced earlier yesterday at 9 AM at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit and was concluded just after 3 PM.
The public came in their numbers to support Ray Phiri’s family during their time of mourning. Among the mourners and guests were Former Mpumalanga premier Mathews Phosa, Pastor Ntsiki Nzimande, Friends of Ray Phiri, Rebecca Malope, Masibuyele KuJehova, Stimela among other honorable guests.

The legendary Ray Phiri’s funeral service will commence at 7 AM – 2 PM and will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Mbombela Stadium. As a directive from The Presidency, granted by the President of South Africa a Special Provincial Funeral Category 2 will be held in honour of the legendary Ray Phiri. National flags will be flown half mast on Saturday.
