Actress Phindile Gwala silent on ‘cash eating’ scandal as police investigate

Phindile Gwala and Jessica Nkosi’s lunch with a man who has been labelled a “thug” is still making headlines.

Police are reportedly investigating the video that went viral on social media.

Phindile can be seen ‘seasoning’ a stash of money and pretending to eat it with a knife and fork.

“This money, we eat it. Salt and pepper,” she can be heard saying.

A giggling Jessica Nkosi is also seen in the video. She appears to be recording Phindile while she “eats” the money.

The actresses received major backlash on social media, with many demanding to know why they were hanging around with a dodgy character.

The man who recorded the footage, and is also seen at the lunch, was investigated by the Hawks last year after he appeared in another controversial video.

The 2016 video showed the man and his friends, known as ‘Bling Bandits’, bragging about a suitcase full of money they had in a room.

The Hawks launched a probe into the video as a Fidelity bag was seen in the suitcase.

No charges were filed against the men.

A spokesperson for Police Minister Fikile Mbalula told News24 that an investigation is underway as the video was linked to the suitcase incident.

Jessica has distanced herself from the now controversial lunch, with her PR team saying she was an “innocent bystander”.

“What transpired left Jessica uncomfortable and upset as this is not the company she is used to keeping nor the environment she wishes to associate her personal brand with,” her PR team said.

Phindile, meanwhile, has been silent about the lunch, and Twitter users are demanding answers.
