How social media unpacked this photo of Mafokate with Fifi Cooper and EFF leaders

People who have offered to help Fifi Cooper have divided social media users, with some commending the EFF, while others have questioned Mafokate's help.

South Africans on social media have criticised EFF leader Julius Malema, his deputy, Floyd Shivambu, and record label boss Arthur Mafokate following a picture shared by rapper Fifi Cooper of the four.

The rapper was offered legal help by the EFF after record label Ambitious Entertainment obtained a court order to stop her from performing her music.

According to court papers shared by the record label, Fifi Cooper will also lose rights to the music she recorded with them, pay royalties and the company’s legal costs.

But Malema announced on Tuesday he would be helping the rapper with the case.

“We are always on the side of the weak and the dejected. Wipe your tears, African girl, very soon you will sing your beautiful songs again. Proper legal team is assembled to help Fifi Cooper against the powerful,” tweeted Malema, while his party said: “We have seen the injustice caused on Fifi Cooper by Ambitious Entertainment, which is politically associated with the corrupt North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo. We have contacted Fifi with the willingness to help her fight back against the corrupt and exploitative record company!”

Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi also confirmed the EFF had contacted the rapper to help in her legal fight against the record label.

“Shit is about to go down. Ambitious Entertainment should know by now that when legal battles are involved EFF lead by Advocate Ngcukaitobi always win. The court interdict violated Fifi’s right to do her job which she depends on to survive,” he said.

Now social media users are not really sure what’s going on after Fifi Cooper shared a picture with the EFF leaders and Mafokate, who is facing his own legal battle following accusations by his ex-girlfriend, Cici, who has accused him of physically abusing her.

According to those on social media, the picture Fifi Cooper shared apparently shows the “hypocrisy” of the people in it. This because the EFF leader has been vocal about his criticism for Mafokate, having also questioned the ANCWL’s silence in Cici’s case.

Cici has also been criticised for associating herself with a man who has been accused of abusing another woman, following rumours that Mafokate had signed her to his company.

“Arthur n EFF? FIFI and Arthur ? Eff and Fifi? moer !! am unable to can,” said one, while poet Ntsiki Mazwai wrote: “It’s too much hypocrisy on one photograph…..it’s witchcraft.”

Some, however, commended the EFF for coming through for Fifi Cooper.

“I was very disturbed when I heard what the judgment ordered, it literally meant Fifi was finished, she only had one option to start afresh. Am happy @EFFSouthAfrica is taking this fight. Fight on, leadership,” said one.

These were some of the reactions on social media:

“Arthur trying to get revenge for Cici moving to @ambitiouz_entertainment by getting involved in this… Fifi basically being used as a political tool by EFF as the owner of Ambitiouz Entertainment is the younger brother of NW Premier Supra Mahumapelo… Basically they will gain more from this than her.. watch…”
