Bhaka fails to fulfil his promises

Promises by Durban healer, Zamokwakhe “Bhaka” Nzama, to turn his common law wife’s birthday party held on Thursday, into a “reveal-all” event around his brief affair with singer Kelly Khumalo that ended in disaster a few weeks ago, turned into a damp squib following the wealthy sangoma’s failure to provide any new details.

While Nzama spoke about the pain his wife endured as a result of his love affair with Khumalo, he shied away from going into details of the nature of his relationship with the singer, particularly details around the recent physical confrontation he had with her in a Durban hotel.

“I’m grateful to my beautiful wife for being brave while I was doing all these things. At times I would leave home at the pretext of going to the nearby shop but only to drive to the Airport and take a flight to Johannesburg. But despite all these things, she remained strong and refused to give up on our relationship,” he said.

The healer also failed to announce the much awaited wedding plans between him and Mzobe that he had promised to disclose during the birthday bash.

“I love my wife so much and have big plans for our future,” that is all Nzama could say.

Signs that the Durban healer had changed his mind regarding last week’s undertaking that he would reveal all at his wife’s birthday party emerged after he had moved the event to Thursday instead of Wednesday as earlier promised – without informing the media.

The Citizen had to learn from sources that the date of the party had been changed. While the healer disappointed many who had expected him to have revealed more, he certainly did not disappoint when it came to feeding and entertaining his guests – that including top gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane and a host of local celebrities.

Alcohol flowed throughout the night while guests were treated to delicious dishes, including braai lamb chops and fish. It was the second time Nzama was seen in public with his common law wife after a two month fling with the Johannesburg based controversial singer, whom the Durban herbalist is said to have showered with expensive gifts, including access to his expensive cars, during the brief liaison.

Kelly, who has a child with the late Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, allegedly poked Nzama in the eye shortly before the Metro FM Music Awards held at the Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Center (ICC) last month after the herbalist had rebuffed the singer’s demand that he dumps Mzobe.

Mzobe, who had also earlier indicated she would give her side of the story around the love triangle, also failed to live up to the promise.

The Citizen later learnt from sources close to the couple that the decision to hold back on details around Nzama’s affair with Kelly was prompted by recent rumours that the healer was now targeting another controversial celebrity, Khanyi Mbau. Mbau, whose relationships with older men made headlines a few years ago, is said to have complained to friends about advances which Nzama had been making to her in recent weeks.

She is said to be angry after Nzama had allegedly turned a business relationship where Mbau was supposed to work on the production of the herbalist’s life documentary, into an opportunity to court her.

However, Nzama denied having made any advances to Mbau. “She has never complained about anything of that nature to me – I only heard people saying things along those lines,” he said.
