Bonang Matheba rejects ‘Muvhango’ role

Bonang Matheba has shot back at the producers of 'Muvhango' after they were "dishonest" with her regarding possible her role on the show.

Matheba was invited to audition for the role of a young woman from the rural areas who arrives in Johannesburg and becomes a gold-digger.

She was reportedly to compete for the role against movie star Terry Pheto, TV presenter Lerato Kganyago, model Gail Nkoana and actress Kay Matidze and expected to audition for the show within two weeks.

Matheba revealed one of the reasons she rejected the offer was because she doesn’t speak Tshivenda.

“If it was ‘Generations’ or ‘Isidingo’, I would accept the job because their scripts are largely written in English,” she explained.

The ‘Top Billing’ presenter also told City Press that she thought the show wanted to “use her name” for publicity.

“It is true that these people phoned my agent when I was overseas shooting one of my shows and invited me to come audition for a role. They said they were going to tailor-make the role for me so I could be part of the series.”

“Now I’m told that I must compete for the role with other people. I think these people wanted publicity by using my name, so I’m not interested,” she said.
