South Africans took to Twitter to lash out at American singer, songwriter and dancer Jason Derulo after comments he made at the ANN7 South African of the Year Awards on Saturday night.

Derulo, who was the main act at the event, asked the audience if they can speak English.
He later clarified his comments through his Twitter account, saying they were not literal and were “directed to a specific table”.
