Khabonina a huge twerker

South African dancer and choreographer Khabonina Qubeka says she started twerking long before it was cool.

Responding to a twitter comment from a fan to a friend that “maybe we should join @KHABONINA_Q’s dance class” because she “looks like she can twerk”, Qubeka wrote: “I’m a HUGE twerker! Lol ! we BEEN Twerking b4 the name was born!”

As the latest dance craze to take the world by storm, twerking is all the rage lately. A scantily-clad Miley Cyrus recently made waves when she twerked on Robin Thicke’s crotch during the MTV Video Music Awards, and South Africa had its own twerking scandal in July when FHM magazine fired two journalists who proposed some very crude punishment for any white people who dare to twerk.

Listed as a verb, twerk was recently added to the Oxford Dictionary with the definition: “Dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.”

Example sentences listed for the use of this pop cultural word include; “Just wait till they catch their daughters twerking to this song” and “Twerk it girl, work it girl”.

Khabonina Qubeka is a judge on e.tv street dance reality competition Step Up or Step Out, alongside DJ and local hip hop pioneer Emile YX?.
