‘Khanyi Mbau is the female Jomo Sono’

Mbau is dropping new single, 'Shake', on Friday and it promises to be one that could put her music career on the map.

Khanyi Mbau is expanding her career, venturing into anything she can put her hands on. Mbau has done it all; radio presenting, acting, TV presenting and now she drops her new single, Shake, this Friday.

After several attempts at a music career, Shake promises to be the single that will put Mbau’s music career on the map.

She tweeted:

It is Mbau’s hustling ways that resulted in one Twitter user calling her the “female Jomo Sono”. Last week, Mbau’s character on uMlilo landed her on the Twitter trends list, with most people complimenting her.

On the most-talked-about episode of the show, Khanyi Mbau and Nomzamo Mbatha kissed and had “sex” in the shower.

Before the show, Mbau warned fans the episode would be “awkward”. The feedback on Twitter was mostly positive, however, though some felt the drama should have been rated 18SN, because “it’s not the kind of thing you watch with your family”.

“Now we know why God made today cold. He knew we’d have to deal with the furnace that #umlilo would bring via Nomzamo Mbatha and Khanyi Mbau,” actor Rami Chuene tweeted.

But why is Khanyi Mbau the “female Jomo Sono”?

Earlier this year Jomo Cosmos owner and coach Jomo Sono caused a major stir on Twitter after he was spotted driving the team’s bus. Pictures of Sono arriving at Lucas Moripe Stadium for the Mamelodi Sundowns game were circulating on Twitter.

While some found the pictures amusing, others lambasted Sono, claiming that he was stingy and that it would damage his legendary status.

However, his eldest son, Bamuza, took to Twitter to clear the air regarding his father’s numerous job titles at the club. “No not true, the name of the bus driver is Simon Dladla just to clear the confusion,” read a tweet from Bamuza.
