Liza Minnelli can’t wait for Michelle Williams’ Cabaret debut

Liza Minnelli has admitted she can't wait to see Michelle Williams recreate her role of Sally Bowles in 'Cabaret' when she makes her Broadway debut in the musical next March.

Liza Minnelli is ”excited” to see Michelle Williams in ‘Cabaret’. The 32-year-old actress will make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in a revival of the musical next March, and the screen icon – who played the same part in the 1972 film version – can’t wait to see how she does in the role.

Liza, 67, told E! News: ”Michelle is a wonderful actress and I love Alan Cumming. ”I’m excited to see what they will do with the show and am sure it will be great!”

Michelle and Alan will be taking on the iconic roles performed by Liza and Michael York in the movie adaptation of the long-running musical, and choreographer Rob Marshall who is reprising his role behind the scenes after working on the 1993 revival of the show – thinks the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star will be ”astonishing”.

He said: ”Michelle Williams is an actress of rare gifts and she will make an astonishing Sally Bowles.” It was revealed ‘Skyfall’ director Sam Mendes will also be returning, and he had admitted he was ”delighted” to be working on the musical once again.

He previously said in a statement: ”I’m delighted to be stepping back into the Kit Kat Klub one more time, and to be having the opportunity to re-explore and re-discover this extraordinary musical alongside two equally extraordinary performers.”
