Robert Marawa admitted to hospital day before Metro FM axing

By Citizen Reporter

Marawa was admitted to hospital on Tuesday, a day before he was fired by the SABC for not pitching up to broadcast his daily radio show on Metro FM.

Marawa spent three nights in total at Sandton and Morningside clinics. He was discharged on Friday, reports Sunday World. Marawa told the weekly that he was admitted for a routine check-up since he had a heart attack a few years ago.

“Since my 2008 heart attack, I have my regular check-ups … this time we did a thorough one with a new cardiologist with better facilities at Morningside. All is well until my next check-up next year,” he said.

Sunday Sun reports that Marawa is already in talks with Touch HD to join the online radio station. An insider said they had spotted Marawa at the offices and a deal was being finalised.

“I think final talks will be held on Tuesday. Robert is an asset and they are going all out to get him. They’d rather break the bank to get him. He is in other talks with stations that fall outside the SABC, but that market doesn’t appeal to him,” the source said.
