Generations stars count cost of strike

The cast of 'Generations' will be suffering the consequences of their lengthy October strike over the holidays.

According to the Sowetan, the actors are only getting three weeks’ leave this year, instead of their usual four, as they are set to break on 20 December before returning to work on 13 January 2014,

The cast has reportedly accepted the ramifications with grace, perhaps aware that they’ve already pushed their luck far enough.

“The actors understand that they are not being punished by having to take shorter leave,” said their lawyer, Bulelani Mzamo.

“This is done so they can catch up on the shooting that they missed out on when they were on strike.

“I have been in constant communication with producers Costas (Gavriel) and Friedrich (Stark) and we reached an agreement.”

Mzamo also commented on the contentious issue of the cast’s new three-year contracts, which was the reason for the encumbering strike.

“My team met the South African Broadcasting Commission’s legal team and senior management personnel three weeks ago,” he said.

“We have ironed out some issues and have made significant progress. We are meeting again sometime in January to finalise the matter.”
