‘I’m glad it’s behind me,’ says Kid Cudi after testifying in Diddy case

Rapper Kid Cudi spoke with relief after testifying against rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on the ninth day of the sex trafficking and racketeering trial.

“I’ve been seeing all the love and support and I just wanna say thank you so much. People been hitting me up the past week just checking in and even today, it really means a lot to me,” said Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, in a video.

“It’s a stressful situation and I’m glad it’s behind me,” he said.

Cassie Ventura testified that Diddy physically abused her during most of their relationship. She dated Diddy dated for 11 years, from 2007 to 2018.

Cudi briefly dated Cassie in 2011, and in his appearance in court, he spoke of how Diddy threatened his life after finding out that the two were together.

In the first week of the trial Cassie told jurors over two days that Diddy raped, beat and forced her into drug-fuelled sex parties over their more than a decade together. Her excruciating testimony will now be grilled by defence lawyers.

Dealing with Diddy

Cudi described a day in December 2011 when he said his apartment was broken into, and police subsequently came to his home.

Cudi also claimed that Diddy broke into his apartment and called him to tell him, “I’m here waiting for you,” as reported in SkyNews.

He said that his dog had been shut in the bathroom, and in a later text to Diddy, the rapper said: “You broke into my house, messed with my dog, I don’t want to talk to you.”

The 41-year-old rapper told the court that his Porsche was firebombed, with a hole cut in the roof of the car, and a Molotov cocktail dropped into the driver’s seat.

The Day ‘n’ Nite rapper testified that Cassie wanted him to come and pick her up, as she was worried Diddy would come to his house. 

“She was very, stressed, nervous, scared, she didn’t know what Sean Combs would do,” he said.

He describes being “confused” as he shared that he “didn’t think she was still dealing with [Diddy],” and said Cassie had previously described him as being “abusive” towards her.

Cudi says he took Cassie to Sunset Marquis, a hotel in West Hollywood, as he thought it would be “safe” and “away from him”.

Diddy’s remorse

Cudi says he met the 55-year-old Diddy some years after he broke up with Cassie. “Man, I just want to apologise for all that bullshit,” Cudi said in court quoting Diddy, after the two met at Soho House.

Cudi said his relationship with Cassie ended because “the drama was too out of hand”.

The court will not be sitting on Friday because it’s a long weekend in the US, and the matter will be heard again on Tuesday.

Diddy’s former employee, Capricorn Clark, who was briefly mentioned in the discussion of the fire in Cudi’s Porsche, is expected to take the stand next week.
