Kelly Rowland in SA for Steyn City housewarming

American pop star Kelly Rowland arrived in South Africa on Wednesday, but only very important people will unfortunately be lucky enough to watch the R&B star in action.

Scheduled for two exclusive performances in Johannesburg over the weekend, the Sowetan reports that Rowland was specifically brought over by billionaire Douw Steyn to play at his housewarming.

Rowland will be helping Steyn wet the roof of his new mansion in ‘Steyn City’, a R6bn development about five times the size of Monaco, which the tycoon started building in 2008. At 900ha, it is bigger than the whole of Sandton and dwarves the 35ha Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, and it was inspired by Steyn’s dream to build an estate that resonates with the lifestyle of a more innocent and traditional suburbia.

At the centre of the city, above a man-made lake, stands ‘Palazzo Steyn’, where Mr Steyn will reside. A palatial residence worth more than R150m, it reportedly has a garage for 33 cars, a wine cellar, and seven bedroom suites. It is here where Rowland will perform for a host of exclusive guests on Saturday night

Rowland’s show at Steyn’s new palatial home will be preceded by a performance at a VIP event at Sandton nightclub Sway on Friday night.

With an estimated wealth of R8bn, Steyn is the owner of Joburg’s lavish Saxon hotel and the founder of both Auto and General and Budget Insurance Company.
