One Direction make SA ticket sales history

One Direction has made South African history in ticket sales, according to Big Concerts Managing Director Justin van Wyk.

“The stats are phenomenal, this is the highest amount of tickets sold in the least amount of time in South African history, by far,” said van Wyk.

The U.K band will be performing to packed crowds in Johannesburg and Cape Town next year.

According to Big Concerts the first Johannesburg show on 28 March 2015 at the FNB stadium sold out in the first 20 minutes after ticket sales opened at 9am this morning.

The second Johannesburg show at the Calabash on 29 March 2015 has very limited tickets left, with mainly package tickets and suite tickets up for grabs.

The Cape Town show at Cape Town stadium on 1 April 2015 sold out within the first three hours of ticket sales opening.

Over 150 000 tickets are expected to be sold as South African fans go into a frenzy for One Direction.

Van Wyk said they knew these tickets would sell  fast, but it was difficult to predict the statistics as the large percentage of their fan base is kids, who will have to be escorted by their parents to the shows.

“One Direction have a family appeal, so I don’t think mothers will be complaining as they take their kids to the show,” he said.

“In fact I think secretly moms also have a crush on One Direction.”

Many fans took to social media platforms to share their joy at getting tickets, some saying that they waited in lines over night, just to ensure their chances of seeing the band live.

Ticket prices range from R350.00 to R2450.00 per person.
