R Kelly stays in SA to honour Madiba
American R&B legend R Kelly has volunteered to stay in South Africa a bit longer so he can perform at the Nelson Mandela Sports and Cultural Day on Saturday.
The singer was scheduled to fly out of country after the conclusion of his two-concert SA tour over the weekend, but it was revealed on Monday that he’ll be staying to join the throng of local musicians set to perform.
On Saturday, South Africans with gather at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg to honour former President Nelson Mandela with the event, which will commence with a soccer match between two teams made up of South African and Italian legends.
The music part of the day will kick off after two more soccer games, with artists such as Salif Keita, Zahara, Black Coffee, Toya Delazy, Mafikizolo and many more scheduled to perform. This will also be the first performance for Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren, who recently broke nine ribs in a car accident.
Prior to the main event on Saturday, renowned musical couple Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu will perform at a gala dinner of Friday.
