The contestant, known as Adams, was removed from the show following the rumours. Female contestant Bexx was also off the show. “Having suspected that there may have been an incident of … misconduct, Mzansi Magic acted by removing both individuals from the house,” publicist Bongiwe Potelwa said.
“At this stage, it is not exactly clear what transpired between Bexx and Adams. Currently, Bexx and Adams are receiving support and assistance from Mzansi
Magic. They are both in the care of professionals and have been given the opportunity to contact family and friends,” the statement read.
Mzansi Magic said it was continuing to investigate the incident after social media went wild with comments following rumours of a sexual nature on Saturday night.
Earlier yesterday, the pay-TV broadcaster said Bexx was removed from the house for her own safety. The broadcaster didn’t give any details, only saying that the reasons were “serious”.
According to Mzansi Magic, all the housemates were aware of the rules of the show. “Any incident that affects the health and wellbeing of the contestants is treated seriously and action will always be taken swiftly and appropriately.”
Bexx’s and Adams’ partners in the house, Soxx (Sokhana Ralane) and Tembi (Tembela Magandela-Mthupha), were given the option to remain, which they accepted. They will now form a pair.
The SA Police Service’s Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said he was not aware of any case opened by any Big Brother contestant.
After the expulsion, the show’s die-hard audience was outraged about the alleged incident. Fans of the reality competition said violence and “misconduct” were nothing.
A few weeks ago, Adams, K2 and Ace were issued strikes for taking advantage of Bexx. In a disciplinary hearing, the show’s producers said: “Ill-mannered conduct towards women will not be tolerated.”
Although K2 and Adams quietly accepted their strikes, a disgruntled Ace responded with: “But I just hugged her.”
Last week, viewers were left in shock after Ace pulled his girlfriend, Ntombi, by the leg during a challenge. Ntombi was struggling to see after she dropped her glasses. As she tried to put her glasses back on, an angry Ace pulled her by the leg, urging her to get up.
Twitter users are urging the broadcaster to take a stand against violence and take the show off air.
