Evita Bezuidenhout, Nataniël and other celebs share secrets in brand-new series

Afrikaans singer and presenter, Jak de Priester – famous for his song ‘Sally Williams Nougat’ – sits down with the likes of Nataniël, in a new talk show called ‘Koppieteefontein’.

Jak de Priester says his latest series is “very special because it is so intimate”.

In the series, due to start airing on Friday, 1 October, celebs open up to him and the whole of South Africa over a cup of tea, hence the name: Koppieteefontein.

The singer and writer, who won the ATKV’s Crescendo singing competition in 2002, says that “to just sit and talk while having a cup of tea, gives you the chance to get to the true emotion of the guest”.

In fact, De Priester says the celebs he talks to in the series “share secrets that they might not share anywhere else”.

A hint of nostalgia

As a cup of tea often comes with a hint of nostalgia, it is also not surprising that as the celebrities open up on the show, they will be sharing photos from their own personal photo albums and tell the viewers how they got to where they are today.

De Priester even shares a pot of tea with the entertainer, Evita Bezuidenhout, saying: “I spoke to her as if her whole life story happened the way it did. It is a fantasy world that crossed paths with reality and that to me was a very unique experience.”

Intimacy is key in ‘Koppieteefontein’

As presenter of Koppieteefontein, De Priester says the intimacy of the conversations he had with the celebrities was one of the highlights when shooting the series and that he enjoyed the opportunity to focus on the guest.

“There wasn’t anything else that we were supposed to do. We didn’t have to cook or jump off a cliff. We could just make tea and really talk to each other.”

Emotions run wild

As they delved deep in conversation, De Priester says the series is filled with both laughs and tears.

“To look at their photographs and to see their reaction when looking at a photograph that was taken many years ago, makes the series even more special.”

Apart from Evita, Nataniël and Hannon Bothma, viewers can also look forward to getting to know celebs like Margit Meyer-Rödenbeck, Amanda Strydom, Major Mandisa Mfeka (South Africa’s first female fighter pilot) and Dr Marlene le Roux of Artscape in Cape Town.
