Prim Terrace a labour of love

Prim Villa's exciting new adventure.

Excitement was in the air as Prim Villa, which falls under the Methodist Homes, prepared to start a new chapter in its journey.

Prim Villa can be found in Primrose Hill and specialises in the care of people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

It now has two mid-care units that allow residents with early stage Alzheimer’s to live in a free and home-like environment.

Prim Cottage has proven that living as a family is extremely beneficial to the well-being of the residents.

It is this positive resident response that led to the opening of Prim Terrace, the newest addition to the home.

The road to Prim Terrace began on May 10, when the renovations to the recently acquired, derelict and vandalised house next door to Prim Villa started.

The renovations took a total of three and a half months to complete.

Everyone at Prim Villa is happy to have been part of making the dream a reality.

“Special mention must be made of Allan Touché‚ who has given up three and a half months of his time to oversee the project from start to end,” said Sharon Flint, manager of Prim Villa.

Touché‚ was thanked for his efforts and was honoured by having the sensory garden that he planted for the residents of Prim Villa named after him.

The sensory garden will assist the team at Prim Villa with the therapy of the residents.

Therapy plays a very important role in the total care and well-being of the residents.

Residents will have the opportunity to add to the garden in the form of remembrance plaques, as Touché did for his late brother and sister-in-law.

The Prim Villa team pride themselves on being experts in caring for those with Alzheimer’s or related dementia.

The qualified nursing staff and caregivers in the facility are specially trained and understand the residents as they transverse the stages of Alzheimer’s or related dementia.

The staff members understand that the residents can feel hopeless at times, and are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to give them the love and attention they need and deserve, making life as comfortable as possible.

This attention to detail offers peace of mind to the residents and their loved ones.

Flint said, “Prim Villa, Prim Cottage and Prim Terrace are places of hope, where the staff consider even the smallest achievement by a resident as a personal triumph – that is why we constantly encourage each and every resident and treat them with love and respect.”

With Prim Terrace’s doors open, Prim Villa is now able to cater to even more mid-care residents.
