The men were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, as well as the illegal possession of live ammunition.

The arrests were made after police received an anonymous tip-off that the men were terrorising people in their local community with the firearm.

The attacks were alleged to have taken place on the morning of Saturday, October 18.

“Our police rushed to the scene and cornered the suspects, using the descriptions given by the informer,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“They searched the men and found that one had a firearm in his possession.

“Officers took the weapon and discovered that there was a bullet in the chamber and another in the man’s possession.”

Both were arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

“We thank the person who passed on the information to the police; by doing so they very well may have saved someone’s life,” added Maome.

The accused both appeared in the Germiston Magistrate Court, where the matter was postponed for plea and a bail application, while the two remained in police custody.
