St Catherine’s class of 2017 makes history

St Catherine’s School, in Parkhill Gardens, celebrated another successful year with a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2017 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams. The school had 27 matric learners sit the exam. Twenty-five candidates, or 93 per cent of the students, achieved a degree pass, which allowed them to continue their studies at a university of their choice. This is the highest percentage of university exemption passes ever achieved by a Grade 12 class, and the school was thrilled.

Primrose residents were urged to be on the lookout for several vehicles allegedly being used in crimes in the area in February.

Operation Fiela continues in the streets of Germiston

During a patrol of the streets of Germiston, as part of the on-going Operation Fiela, officers from the Germiston Police Station confiscated a number of counterfeit products.

Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, warns the community to be on the lookout for several vehicles believed to have been used in crimes in the area.

Breaking News: Triple murder, suicide in Elspark described as gruesome by SAPS

The Elsburg SAPS attended what they are describing as a gruesome murder/suicide scene in Elspark. The incident took place in Shrike Street. Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS, told the GCN it is alleged that a 64-year-old father shot and killed his two daughters, aged 35 and 37, and his son, aged 38 before committing suicide by turning the gun on himself.

Breaking News: Wadeville Licensing Department employees arrested on charges of fraud and corruption involving about R80-million

The Elsburg SAPS swooped on the Wadeville Licensing Department in Osborn Road, arresting four suspects on charges of fraud and corruption amounting to about R80-million. The suspects, three women and one man, between the ages of 35 and 46 years old, were held at the Elsburg Police Station pending their appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

Social workers at Bertha Gxowa Hospital tried to locate this unknown man’s family. He was a patient at the hospital.

The three most dangerous snakes on the East Rand

The warm weather means snakes will now be up and about after a long period of hibernation, hungry and in search of food. From mid-August until late May it is snake season.

Do you know this man or his family?

Social workers at Bertha Gxowa Hospital attempted to trace the family of an unknown male patient. He was admitted to the male medical ward.

Breaking News: Parts of Rietfontein and Shamrock roads, in Primrose, closed due to active crime scene

Motorists travelling in Primrose were urged to avoid Shamrock and Rietfontein roads as sections of the roads had been closed due to an active crime scene. According to Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, it was alleged that an armed robbery took place at a business in Shamrock Road.

Loadshedding is taking place, check your schedule

As a result of a shortage of capacity due to a number of generating units still being out of service due to breakdowns, Eskom implemented stage two rotational loadshedding.
