The residents of Phase Three B Extention 28 in Vosloorus are angry over what they describe as unfair treatment by their Ward 46 Clr Mzwandile Wondo.
The residents accused Wondo of taking away the already approved park allocation of R7.6 million away from them in Phase Three B to a different site, Phase Two – an area Kathorus MAIL was made to believe is where Wondo resides.
One of the angry residents Sebenzile Shongwe, who is also deputy chairperson of Phase Three B ward committee, told Kathorus MAIL it was unfair of Wondo to re-allocate the budget appropriated for erecting a park in Phase Three B to another area, an area that already has more than two parks.
“In December last year, he (Wondo) lied to us that we must rest assured the park was going to be built in this area. But during the following meeting, he sang a different tune. Firstly, he told us the place is reserved for RDP houses.

“We asked for a proof which he failed to provide. Seeing that we were not buying the idea of RDP houses, he made us sign an attendance register in a meeting that took place early in January, and then pretended we agreed on the re-allocation of the budget to Phase Two. It shows that he is heartless,” said Shongwe.
Residents claimed that the lack of park facilities in Phase Three B puts their children’s lives in danger because of the distance they have to travel (almost 3km) to the nearest park in Extention 14.
Shongwe said there were children who were run over by cars and died walking from the park in Extention 14 at night.
Chairperson of Phase Three B ward committee Mike Mavuso said since raising this concern with Wondo, he has become aggressive.
“If we want answers he tells us that he works for no one else except for the ANC. It feels the man we voted for because of trust we had in him is now failing us,” said Mavuso.
Mavuso added: “We are not okay about this. If he fails to give us what we want (park), we are not going to vote. No park no vote,” said Mavuso.
However, Wondo said the original plan was to erect a park in Phase Three B, but the feasibility study conducted in January ruled out that possibility.

“All along I have been working with the ward committee to make sure they get their park. But things changed after the feasibility study was conducted late last year whose outcomes was made known this year.
“It seems they are not happy with the outcome, and there is nothing I can do about it because the place where the park was supposed to be built is now reserved for RDP houses by the Department of Human Settlement. The order came from above,” Wondo said.
