The number of house robbery cases being reported in Germiston Sector Four and Five has recently increased, according to Germiston SAPS.
To combat this, officers from the station rolled out a door-to-door crime prevention campaign last Tuesday.
“The main purpose of this campaign was to educate domestic workers on various crimes and how criminals can make them part of a ruse and ultimately rob the homes they work in,” said Const Maxwell Mabunda, communications officer for Germiston police.

“We handed out pamphlets which detailed emergency services’ numbers, and explained popular scams locals should be aware of.”
According to Mabunda, a popular scam on the rise is that once robbers realise a domestic worker is home alone, they’ll pretend to be a delivery person who has already made an arrangement with the homeowner in order to gain access to the home.
“We urge domestic workers to first call the homeowner to verify whether a delivery had been scheduled for the said day, by doing this they can prevent robberies that could possibly endanger their lives.
“All residents should strive to put their safety first, if you notice suspicious behaviour or people in your yard, rather phone the police to avoid dangerous confrontations,” said Mabunda.
