In view of high traffic volumes over the Easter weekend, the EMPD intensified operations by embarking on high density special operations in an earnest endeavour to ensure safety for all Ekurhuleni’s road users.
The special operations commenced as early as last Wednesday evening targeting all feeder roads and arterials carrying heavy traffic volumes with the focus on those not adhering to the rules of the road.

Chief of Police Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye visited all the static and roving roadblocks conducted which were also aimed at crime prevention in the areas of Germiston, Boksburg and Alberton.
“This is our earnest endeavour to ensure that a safe road user environment for all in the metro is made possible and thus no mercy will be shown to anyone who fails to observe the rules of the road or engages in any acts of crime,” said Mapiyeye.
A total of 23 drunk drivers were arrested between last Thursday and last Sunday morning.

Eleven were nabbed in Boksburg, eight apprehended in Tokoza and one arrested in Primrose.
During the operations EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit members distributed over 400 pamphlets on road safety to road users.
Spot summonses totaling 318 were issued for various offences.
Three public transport vehicles and eight private vehicles were discontinued with serious defects with two completely unroadworthy vehicles being impounded.
