The Primrose Fire Station was attacked by a group of people allegedly residing in the Makause informal settlement at about 10.30pm, on Monday.
During the attack, five machine bay door windows were destroyed by flying objects and door structures were damaged.
The objects were later determined to be bricks and stones.
The front left of one of the fire engines was dented and scratched.
“Primrose SAPS, EMPD and senior staff members on duty were informed of the distress and the personnel at the fire station under the command of shift manager, Stephan Jacobs, were secured,” said Daine Jones, station manager for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).
One security guard deployed at the fire station for the night shift was sitting inside the machine bay at the time of the attack and it was later confirmed that he was slightly injured by a flying object which hit him on his right leg.
He did not need medical treatment.

“The SAPS arrived on scene and secured the area indicating that the incident was not a planned attack but allegedly merely vigilantes who took the opportunity to cause damage to the station,” said Jones.
A patrol vehicle was dedicated to the area, and as a precaution, Pretoria Road was closed off for traffic at the intersection of Shamrock and Pretoria roads and at the intersection of Stanley and Pretoria roads.
The SAPS confirmed that they were monitoring protest action which was taking place at the intersection of Main Reef and Stanley roads, where there was the burning of tyres and unrest.
“According to Primrose SAPS, about 40 to 50 people have been causing trouble in the area by throwing stones at cars,” said Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS.
“The SAPS Public Order Policing (POP) Unit and EMPD were on the scene and no clear reasons for the protest were revealed.
“It is suspected to be a service delivery protest again, the same as last week.
“No arrests have been made as yet.”
