Bheki Hlatshwayo from Malvern East is getting ready for the next instalment of the Comrades Marathon on August 28.

He is confident that he can deliver a good performance and surpass his previous record.
He ran his last Comrades in 2018.

“It means a lot to me to be part of this competition because the marathon is more challenging. It also challenges me to build my life around positive thinking.
“Young people have to draw inspiration from us. If we do not give up we will inspire a new generation of athletes and leaders,” said Bheki.
Bheki ran his initial Comrades in 2016 and finished in eight hours and 16 minutes.

“Since then I managed to improve on my time in 2018; I managed to run up to a silver medal,” said Bheki.
“This year I hope to run a better time and cross the finish line in about seven hours. Previously Covid-19 disturbed my plans and I was not training for some time,” he said.
