Shop owners shared their despair as they continue to struggle financially due to the effects of load-shedding.

Yugo Fumani, who started tailoring in 2002, employs five other tailors. He bought a new generator last year.

“At times you would find that I cannot complete a customer’s garment because of the time I had lost during load-shedding.

“Even now with the generator, we are struggling because we cannot use the power from the generator to use our industry irons. We can only afford to use our machines and have the lights on,” said Fumani.

Fumani said the economy is also taking a toll on him as well as the business as petrol is expensive to keep the generator running.

“This is a very bad situation because we are eating into our profits. Petrol keeps rising and load-shedding never ends, but we have to do what we have to do for us to survive,” said Fumani.
