Ithembelihle gets creative during open day

Prospective parents were informed about the admission process.

Ithembelihle Special Educational Needs (LSEN) School’s learners in Primrose hosted their first open day recently.

There was a variety of activities as community members and representatives from the Department of Education and potential sponsors attended the event.

“This event provided an opportunity to learn more about schools for learners with physical disabilities.

“Prospective parents were informed about the admission process.

“We also extended our invite to companies that are curious about schools that cater for learners with physical disabilities,” said Mercy Vangu, occupational therapist.

Muhammad Hussain, an intern educational therapist, said the tour showcased to sponsors and parents what the learners can do.

“Parents were amazed to see what our children can do. We have drama, music, sports, wheelchair tennis and we recently started a marimba band. The school aims to create our future ambassadors,” said Hussain.

“We have numerous success stories in our school. In 2021 we had our first group of matriculants. We are proud of the success of our matriculants, who achieved a 100% pass rate,” said principal Leonor Ngozi.
