Constable secures two life sentences for rapists in Germiston and Primrose
A Germiston Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit officer has been hailed as a hero for ensuring that two child rapists received life sentences for their crimes.
Constable Lesedi Motshegoa of the Germiston Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit has secured two life sentences.
In the first case reported at SAPS Primrose in October 2022, a 9-year-old girl was playing with her friend at the home of the friend’s 35-year-old uncle.
The uncle offered the children sweets and invited them into the house, where he gave them a cellphone to watch videos and play games.
Then, later, he called the victim into the room, where he pulled up her dress and raped her.

The case was registered at SAPS Primrose and thoroughly investigated by a dedicated young constable Motshegoa, who remained committed to her mandate of protecting innocent children.
She persistently opposed bail throughout the legal process, ensuring that justice was pursued without compromise.
Her tireless efforts led to the Germiston Regional Court finding the accused guilty and sentencing him to life imprisonment on October 9.
In another case reported in September 2022 at SAPS Germiston, the case involved a 15-year-old girl whose mother worked for the 58-year-old accused, whom the police could not name to protect the minor involved.

Germiston SAPS Sergeant Maxwell Mabunda said the mother was doing laundry and ironing for the now-convicted male.
“The mother would often send her daughter to deliver the laundry to the man’s residence, an arrangement that ultimately led to the crime. Then the accused instructed the victim to get inside the house and later raped her,” said Mabunda.
The case was registered at Germiston SAPS and investigated by Motshegoa.
“Thanks to thorough investigation and commitment to justice, the perpetrator was held accountable and received a life sentence for his actions,” said Ekurhuleni District communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

“We are proud of Constable Motshegoa for prioritising the safety and well-being of our young and vulnerable children. Her work reflects the values we uphold in the Ekurhuleni District, to serve and protect with integrity and dedication,” said Sithole.
