WATCH: Jub Jub’s court appearance postponed after arrest on kidnapping and firearm charges

TV personality Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye's expected appearance in the Germiston Magistrate's Court was postponed after his arrest in connection with alleged kidnapping and firearm-related offences in Edenvale.

Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye’s expected appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on June 15 has been postponed to June 17.

The 45-year-old was arrested following an incident in Edenvale on June 14 and faces charges of kidnapping, the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place and defeating the ends of justice.

According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the incident allegedly occurred at about 07:30 after an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.

Police allege Maarohanye confronted the driver, accusing him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.

It is further alleged that the suspect forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving.
During the incident, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.

The driver reportedly escaped unharmed and drove directly to a nearby police station to report the matter.

Mathe said police responded swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards.

Maarohanye was expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on June 15, but the matter was postponed to June 17.

More details are expected to emerge when the case returns to court.
