EMPD clamps down on illegal trading and structures in Germiston

The EMPD seized illegal braai stands and demolished unlawfully erected structures in Germiston following repeated warnings. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to enforce municipal by-laws in the city.

The EMPD has confirmed that it confiscated several illegal trading items and demolished unlawfully erected structures during an enforcement operation in the Germiston area on July 4.

According to the EMPD, traffic wardens from the Germiston precinct conducted the operation between 11:00 and 13:00 in the Elandshaven suburb and around the Gosforth Park industrial area.

The action followed multiple verbal and written warnings issued to individuals trading without the necessary permits and erecting structures on public land.

During the operation, officers confiscated five large self-made braai stands, each constructed from 100-litre drums, that were being used by unregistered traders to prepare and sell meat.

In addition, two illegally erected structures situated just outside the main entrance to Gosforth Park were demolished.

“All seized items were transported to the EMPD Germiston precinct for safekeeping,” the EMPD said in a statement.

No arrests were made, and no injuries were reported during the operation.

The metro police have reiterated their commitment to upholding the City of Ekurhuleni’s by-laws and maintaining order in public spaces. EMPD operations of this nature will continue across the municipality.
