Rand Water maintenance to hit Germiston, Bedfordview and Edenvale with outages and low pressure

A major four-day Rand Water maintenance operation from May 29 to June 2 is expected to cause significant water disruptions across parts of Germiston, Bedfordview, Edenvale and Kempton Park.

Residents across Germiston, Bedfordview and Edenvale are being urged to prepare for intermittent water supply disruptions as Rand Water begins a series of planned maintenance projects that will affect large parts of the City of Ekurhuleni.

The maintenance programme will run from May 29 until July 19 and is expected to affect several suburbs, including reduced water pressure, intermittent supply, and temporary outages.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, water tankers will be deployed to affected communities, with details on tanker locations and schedules to be communicated closer to the time through the city’s digital platforms.

The city warned that the water supply may not return immediately after maintenance is completed, especially in high-lying areas, as reservoirs and systems require time to regain pressure.

Full normalisation could take up to two weeks after certain maintenance periods.

Local areas expected to be affected

In Germiston, affected areas include Germiston CBD, Lambton, Dinwiddie, Sunnyridge, Elsburg, Wadeville, Delville, Castleview, Roodekop, Driehoek, Gosforth Park, Wychwood, Malvern East and surrounding suburbs.

In Bedfordview and surrounding areas, residents in Bedfordview Central, Bedford Gardens, Essexwold, Oriel, Morninghill and nearby suburbs may experience interruptions.

Edenvale and neighbouring communities, including Edenglen, Eastleigh, Dowerglen, Dunvegan, Harmelia, Meadowdale, Sebenza, Isandovale and Highway Gardens, are also expected to be affected during various stages of the maintenance.

Key maintenance dates
The first major interruption is scheduled for May 29 from 07:00 to 19:00, linked to Eskom maintenance at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch and Palmiet pump stations.

A second, more extensive maintenance operation will take place from May 29 at 07:00 until June 2 at 19:00, involving the replacement of raw water motors at Zuikerbosch.

This is expected to significantly affect parts of Germiston, Bedfordview, Edenvale and Kempton Park.

Further planned maintenance is scheduled for July 17, with additional interruptions expected until July 19 due to pipeline cross-connections within the Mapleton system.

Residents urged to prepare
The City of Ekurhuleni has advised residents and businesses to:
Store clean water for essential household use.

Reduce non-essential water consumption, such as irrigation, vehicle washing, and topping up swimming pools.

Monitor official City of Ekurhuleni and Rand Water communication channels for updates and tanker schedules.

The city said the maintenance is necessary to improve long-term water supply reliability across the region.
