It gives me great pleasure to report the prompt service occasionally received from the metro.
I, personally, have brought stolen traffic signs to the attention of room 104 at the Germiston Customer Care Centre regularly, since early May.
Apparently an exercise in futility.
Change of tactics – I reported the matter directly to the road-sign officer at the SAAME building on June 4 and, voila, in less than 48 hours two teams were on the scene.
They repainted the road markings, installed a brand new stop sign and replaced the “T-Junction” type chevron signpost.
They also replaced other stolen signposts at the three-way split from Refinery Road into Lake and Parkhill roads.
Much thanks to the gentleman responsible and to the teams responsible for the rehabilitation of this intersection or “junction”.
However, it is such a pity that even this prompt reaction appears to have happened a day or two too late.
Clear evidence of a collision is visible at this point.
I have a suggestion for the metro when it comes to traffic signs: shouldn’t the newly installed poles (that hold the traffic signs) be concreted or cemented into the ground as opposed to just inserting them loosely into the soil?
Currently they’re only about 30 to 50cm deep.
This could be an open invitation for the thieves to steal them again.
