Residents left in the dark

Power outages anger residents.

Marlene Tucker, of Fishers’ Hill, writes:

I live in Fishers’ Hill and when I left for work recently my power was out, that was at 6am.

I arrived home at about 4.45pm and the power had been on for approximately an hour.

At 6pm the power went out again and, hours later, it still had not been restored.

In the meantime, thanks to the council, I have an alarm that no longer works, an aquarium with dying fish and equipment that has blown, and a large amount of food in the fridge and freezer has been spoilt.

I have tried following up with the call taking centre and they tell me there is a problem with a transformer, then they say they will send someone to my house, then it is cables.

The metro did send someone out.

One guy went up the light pole the other was trying to turn on the electricity in the water meter.

I don’t know why they were trying to turn on the power, as it was not just my house that was out.

In addition, a couple of weeks before this we had a 24-hour power failure in Vega Street after load shedding.

We’ve just had to accept that nothing is maintained by the metro.

Editor’s note: The metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe, said the recent outage was caused by an overloaded fuse that blew.
