Wendy Morgan, Primrose CPF chairman, writes:
How can the drought be blamed for a water shortage, when the Vaal Dam still has over 50 per cent capacity?
In previous years there has been only 11 per cent water in the Vaal Dam and consumers still had water!
Why are the same areas always affected?
In September, last year, parts of Primrose, Sunnyridge, Gerdview, Marlands, Homestead and Bedfordview were without water for two weeks?
We were told the problem was sorted out, but one year later we are right back to the same problem.
Who has not done their job?
Residents are at risk standing in long queues, in the dark, waiting to get water, after a hard day at work.
Criminals are waiting for someone to let their guard down.
Who is protecting them?
Once again it is the community themselves, who have volunteer CPF patrollers, keeping an eye out.
Where is the CEO and the staff of Rand Water – sitting at home with water coming out of the tap?
There are many pensioners living in the area who cannot go and fetch water from the Jojo tanks – what do they do?
Thank goodness they have a community like they do.
They have to rely on their helpful neighbours to get water for them .
Why should we as a community have to accept this kind of “service” for water or lack of water?
Someone needs to take charge and solve the problem, not put in place temporary measures and never fix the problem properly.
Let us see how long this water crisis lasts again – and will we have a repeat again next year?
We have not forgotten it, but maybe Rand Water has.
