Locals forced to adjust their spending habits due to fuel increases.
Setumo Mpashi: “Before the increase I spent R1 050 a month on petrol from my home in Daveyton to get to work in Germiston. With the increase I have to spend R325 extra.”
Metron Dube: “The fuel increase affects the food prices and our transport prices. We do not spend money on anything else other that what we need because our salaries don’t allow us to.”
Thomas Khumalo: “Business owners are hit hard by all the increases especially those who do not supply the everyday necessities. Consumers are cutting down their budgets on luxury items or services.”
Eric Molefe: “My budget has taken a hard blow from these constant fuel increases. I cannot even negotiate a wage increase because my employer and I are in the same boat.”
Cathy Wehr: “I normally use taxis because they are affordable. However, the recent petrol hikes have affected my taxi fare and money has become tight. It has hit the nation hard.”
Jawad Akmal: “When petrol increases everything else follows. The recent hike has forced me and my family to create a spending budget. It has forced a change in our lifestyle.”
