With the economic downturn burning a hole in our pockets, the GCN took to the streets to find out how residents preferred to save their money if they do save at all.
Morris Mabusela: “In this current economy it is impossible for me to save. The money that comes in already has obligations to meet. I can barely afford petrol. What money can I save?”
Palesa Selebete: “I don’t save at all, but maybe a fixed deposit account would suit me because when I want to do a large purchase l save towards buying it, like a goal.”
Perseverance Ruswa: “I don’t have any savings accounts, investment plans or even a piggy bank at home. Starting from next month I will try to save and see if it becomes a habit.”
Yaqoob Yaqoob: “I spend money as I receive it. There’s always a payment due that needs to be paid or an emergency that needs money immediately and I end up spending it all.”
Beryl Koert: “I would like to save but I have two children and any amount of money I get ends up being split between them and making sure their needs are met.”
Solomon Manyika: “I don’t like buying things on credit so I use a variety of saving methods. I save using stop orders and stokvels designed to help you save for a rainy day.”
