Last minute win for Elspark United

After a goalless first-half in the latest South African Brewery (SAB) League fixture, Elspark United FC and Germiston City FC returned to the pitch for an entertaining second-half.

Germiston City Football Club played host to Elspark United Football Club in the latest South African Brewery (SAB) League fixture on Sunday.

The game kicked-off at 3pm at the Germiston City Sports Grounds.

Just over five minutes into the game, the referee requested that Elspak United’s players change their jerseys as their navy blue jerseys were difficult to distinguish when set against Germiston City’s emerald green.

The first half then got officially underway when Elspark United returned to the pitch in sky-blue jerseys.

The uneventful first half saw both teams scattered across the pitch with the ball being kicked out of bounds more than being shot through the goal posts.

Thabo Tsotetsi of Elspark United FC was a key player in ensuring his team finished with a win, in the latest South African Brewery (SAB) League match played at the Germiston City Sports Grounds against Germiston City FC on Sunday.

Elspark United was presented with an opportunity to score when Nkululeko Ndlovu was awarded a free-kick following a tackle from a Germiston City defender, but the ball did not reach the desired destination.

After half-time, the teams seemed to have regrouped.

Mpho Mosese emerges from between two Germiston City FC players and heads the ball into Elspark United’s favour.

Charging past Germiston City’s defenders, Tebogo Nkobi of Elspark United pulled an aerial cross-field pass to a skilful Njabulo Mohori who sent a fastball past the keeper, earning the first goal of the match in the 68th minute.

Seven minutes later, Germiston City’s aggressive counter-attack paid off, as an equaliser from long range left Clement Baloyi, the Elspark United goalkeeper, wondering.

Njabulo Mohori (Elspark United FC) passes the ball to his teammate as a Germiston City FC player (in green) goes in to attack.

In the 88th minute, before the final whistle was blown, Elspark United once again pulled together to give a spectacular finish.

Nkobi broke through the hosts’ centre, laying the ball to Thabo Tsotetsi who easily beat Germiston City’s keeper and found the back of the net.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Nkobi’s performance earned him the much-deserved Man of the Match title.
