Germiston athletes continue to up the game
"I was happy to compete at the event though I won silver after being injured in March.”
Ameenat Fagbemi and Meagan Hamilton, who train under Germiston veteran and coach Stephané Kotzé, recently competed in the Sasolburg events.
Hamilton competed in the 100 meter and 90 meter hurdles, winning first place in both events.
She described the tournament as difficult because she was up against athletes she had never competed against before.

The Dr EG Jansen Grade Nine learner expressed her happiness at winning gold in both events.
“I’ve been doing hurdles for three years and I love it. I’ve had a coach since last year, and it has improved my performance,” said Hamilton.
“Earlier this year, I raced in the 90 and 100 meters hurdles at the South African Schools Championships and the ASA Championships. I also participate in hockey and cheerleading at school and dance,” said Hamilton.
Fagbemi (18) participates in 100 and 200 meter competitions. At the Sasolburg event, she recently ran her personal best time of 11:92.
She also placed second in the 100 meter event and third in the 200 meter event at the North West University Top 30.

At the Curro Podium in Pretoria, she finished third in the 100 meter race.

“Even though I placed second at the Sasolburg events, I was nonetheless glad to compete. I was injured in March, but these results show that I’ve improved.
“Next month, I’ll be competing in the 1500 meter and 60 meter events at UJ,” said Fagbemi.
“I recently received my full colours for leadership at school (Edenglen High School), along with half colours for academics, distinctions in geography and English, and the titles of best girl athlete and best overall athlete of the year,” said Fagbemi.
