The mayors escape follows after talks with a group who call themselves the Concerned Residents of Devon allegedly turned sour. It is understood that Maloka was there to address service delivery related issues. According to Sergeant Sbongile Ndlela (spokesperson for the police in Devon) an angry mob stormed the municipal buildings as Maloka met with to leader of the Concerned Residents of Devon group give feedback on service delivery issues. According to Ndlela 18 people were arrested for reasons relating to the contravention of the public gatherings act. They will appear in court tomorrow. It is also alleged that rocks were thrown, tyres were burned, road signs on the R29 were vandalised and that glass windows of a municipal building were broken.
