SAPS Nigel investigators reported that burglars broke into two retail stores by entering through the roof and then breaking down a side wall to get into the second store.
Best Electric and Jet Stores in Hendrik Verwoerd Street were targeted on September 28 at 05:00 when burglars first forced their way into Best Electric by breaking open a section of the roof, followed by smashing a hole through the double brick layer wall, giving them access to Jet store.
Jet’s stock room manager Thulasizwe Shongwe, believes the same intruders have broken through a different wall at the store in July.
Surveillance video shows the intruders breaking down a sheet brick wall in the retail section of the store. A man then climbs through the wall and crawls towards the back office. Once he reaches the back office door, the alarm beams detect him and signals the alarm.
“The burglars entered the Best Electric store by breaking through the roof and on their way out they bent open the front security gate”, W/O Von Wielligh explained.
“Since our last burglary in July, we have installed more security systems, cameras and motion detectors. We are pleased the security upgrade prevented any serious loss of stock or cash, but the damage caused is unpleasant and frustrating”, Thulasizwe clarified.
