Four gunmen entered the Foschini Clothing Store in Hendrik Verwoerd Street and held staff and customers at gunpoint while robbing the store.
Store manager Nadia Delport said the robbers entered the store on October 9 at 10:30 and threatened them with guns before locking four staff members, two security guards and two customers in the backroom.
“They forced us to lie face down on the floor and ordered the security guard to unlock the cell phone safe”, Nadia said.
SAPS Nigel spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh said the men pulled out bags in which approximately 200 cell phones were stuffed and carried away.
“The robbers were well organised and coordinated. They escaped in a blue Volkswagen Polo with cell phones worth an estimate of R206 000”, W/O Von Wielligh stated.
SAPS Nigel was contacted shortly after the robbers left the scene.
“Our last robbery was on 18 October 2012 with a minimum loss whereas this robbery caused a knock on the financial end of our business. Nobody was hurt and we are grateful for that”, Nadia added.
No shots were fired. Anyone with information can contact SAPS Nigel on 011 812 6500.
