Ackermans in Hendrik Verwoerd Street suffered their fourth burglary of the year on November 7.
Burglars gained entry through the roof and burglar barred ceiling and raided the store’s cell phone storage unit.
Annalize du Randt (store manager) said she received a call from Monitor 24 around 02:20 notifying her of the triggered alarm.
Monitor 24 personnel escorted her to the store and on their arrival noticed a section of the roof cut away.
“Earlier this year we installed burglar bars covering the section of the roof where burglars forced their entry earlier. This time they simply cut through the bars and entered the store”, Annalize said.
SAPS Nigel spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh said the alarm beams positioned at the back end of the store were spray painted.
“Security beams in the cell phone storage unit detected movement and activated the alarm after the burglars made their way into the store and forced open the cell phone storage room by breaking open a section of the wall”, Annalize added.
“Thieves stole an estimate of R200 000 worth of cell phone units and we suspect they exited the building the same way they entered”, W/O Von Wielligh stated.
This has been the fourth burglary the Ackermans store suffered this year despite their efforts to increase security.
