Lewis store burgled

Two department stores have been targeted by burglars in one week

Two department stores have been targeted by burglars in one week.
The first burglary happened on November 7 when burglars forced entry through the roof of Ackermans and stole an estimate of R200 000 worth of cell phones.
On November 12 the Lewis store in First Avenue was targeted when burglars broke open the front security gate and raided the store.
Emis Security arrived at the scene within ten minutes after the alarm was triggered and found the front entrance of the store forced open.
Lewis store assistant manager Ntlantla Vilakazi was contacted by Emis Security around 02:50 notifying her about the burglary.
“When Emis Security personnel contacted me they said they noticed the beams in the store detecting movement but found no one when sweeping the property”, Ntlantla said.
“Burglars managed to remove the security gate’s locks with specialised tools and forced the door open which triggered the alarm. Burglars are normally well-informed before committing the crime and know where valuables are stored”, W/O Von Wielligh said.
“Checkout security guard told us there was a green BMW and white bakkie circling the block moments before the alarm went off. The burglars stole large electronic equipment and these vehicles could possibly be connected to the crime”, Ntlantla said.
The estimated loss is R50 000 with no arrests yet been made.
