Burglars helped themselves to an early Christmas present after cutting open an FNB ATM.
Unidentified intruders broke a hole in the rear wall of the old FNB building on the corner of Hendrik Verwoerd Street and Second Avenue and cut open the ATM’s vault.
During the morning hours of December 13 burglars knocked a hole in the vacant building’s wall before cutting the FNB ATM’s vault open with a cable grinder.
According to SAPS Nigel’s spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh the building has no surveillance cameras or alarm system installed.
“One of the security guards reported the burglary around 07:15 after he conducted a routine check of the building and noticed that the vault’s door is open”, W/O Von Wielligh said.
“They used a grinder to cut open the door of the vault escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash”, W/O Von Wielligh concluded.
Police urged residents with information to report it on 011 812 6500.
