SAPS Nigel recovered two hijacked trucks after they were abandoned on a farm off the Balfour Road on January 23.
The trucks carrying liquid copper were hijacked in Cleveland, Johannesburg around 19:30 on January 22.
According to W/O Madeleine von Wielligh (SAPS Nigel spokesperson), the hijackers held the drivers at gunpoint as they drove around the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
“The hijackers drove to a privately owned farm where the drivers were dropped off and left with the trucks. The drivers searched for help from the neighbouring farm owner, who then contacted Nigel Police for assistance “, W/O Von Wielligh said.
W/O Grobbies Grobbelaar responded to the call and found the trucks on the farm.
“The trucks were found with its loads, with an estimated value of R10 million, fully intact “, W/O Von Wielligh stated.
“It is rare to recover hijacked trucks, especially carrying valuable loads such as copper, without any damages to the vehicles or injuries to drivers”, W/O Von Wielligh stated.
Nigel police also recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux bakkie on the same farm.
No arrests have been made.
