Nigel Golf Club suffered another attempted burglary when trespassers broke into the club’s storage facility.
Police were dispatched after Stan Stander (green keeper) reported that a worker noticed signs of a forced entry to a gate enclosing the maintenance equipment of the club.
According to Stan, three security gates leading to the main storage facility were forced open.
“The criminals entered the main storage facility where we keep the golf course machinery. They removed a lawnmower and tried to lift it onto a vehicle”, he said.
SAPS Nigel’s spokesperson Madeleine von Wielligh said the police found a vehicle registration plate at the scene as well as footprints indicating that there might have been more than two trespassers.
Stan stated that the licence plate number is registered to a white Isuzu bakkie.
“I understand from the police report that the bakkie has not been reported as stolen”, Stan said.
Although entry was gained, nothing has been stolen.
W/O Von Wielligh said the club has been plagued with burglaries in recent weeks and that police are coordinating with other towns on tracking down the perpetrators.
